Zambia – Funding Lot #5

Given the more advanced stage of the off-grid energy market in Zambia and positive market developments already achieved through the BGFZ pilot programme, this Country Programme includes both a Launch to Scale (LS) Funding Window and a Direct to Scale (DS) Funding Window.

The LS Funding Window is targeted at incentivising new Energy Service Providers (ESPs) to enter the Zambian market and/or to incentivise experienced ESPs to grow further in Zambia. The LS Funding Window is consequently open to both early-stage and experienced ESPs (with market experience in Zambia or in other Sub-Saharan African countries).

The LS Funding Window is divided into two Funding Lots (Funding Lots #4 and #5).

Funding Lot #5 is aimed at supporting ESPs’ sale of energy services deployed through Mini- and Micro-grids.

Productive use, clean cooking and the inclusion of institutional clients (e.g. health and education) will also be incentivised within Funding Lot #5.

Under the Country Programme for Zambia, up to EUR 0.5 million is set aside for productive use or higher Tier connections (defined as Tier 3 – 5 connections for commercial and institutional use). Pending final approval, this amount is expected to increase with additional funding from Germany (only concerning Zambia Country Programme).
