BGFA Mozambique
66% of Mozambique’s population of 28 million lives in rural areas, where the overall electrification rate stands at about 15%. However, only 5.7% of rural households use electricity for lighting.
Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa in Mozambique
The country has a high-level commitment to meeting the Sustainable Development Goal objective of universal access to modern energy by 2030.
Although role of off-grid energy services and of sustainable cooking stoves and fuels are well-recognised, the market for solar homes systems is considerably less developed in Mozambique than in leading African markets. The Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa sees large growth potential in the country, where the off-grid market opportunity is about 4.4 million households.
