A post programme evaluation has been carried out of the Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia (BGFZ) pilot programme implemented between 2016-2022. A presentation of these results will be held on 17 June at 15:00-16:00 EEST and is open for all. Register to the event through this link.
Background
The Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia programme was a multi-year initiative aimed at stimulating the off-grid energy market in Zambia. Managed by the Embassy of Sweden and executed on the ground by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and later Nefco, the Facility Manager of BGFA. The pilot programme centered on three key pillars: results-based financing for energy service providers, a market change platform through the Zambian Off-Grid Task Force, and the EDISON data and monitoring system.
The support under the BGFZ pilot programme facilitated the installation of almost 3 MW of renewable energy, reaching over one million Zambians and significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
The event on 17 June
The presentation will delve into the results of the ex-post evaluation of BGFZ, conducted by Greencroft Economics. The evaluation assessessed the programme’s effectiveness, impact, and sustainability from 2016 to 2022. It covered various aspects such as the financial and technical support provided to the four supported energy service providers under the pilot programme, their progress towards sales targets, and the broader market impact.
The presentation will also offer insights into lessons learned and recommendations for future initiatives to enhance off-grid energy access and market development in similar contexts.
