The Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia has reached a successful conclusion – the delivery of energy service subscriptions to over 1 million Zambians. Launched by Sweden in 2016, four Energy Service Providers were contracted under the pilot programme to illuminate the lives of rural and per-urban people all across the country by 2021, a goal it met late last year.
Building on the success of the pilot programme in Zambia, it has been expanded into the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA). The first Call for Proposals was opened in Burkina Faso, Liberia and Zambia in autumn 2020, and it is currently concluding this first round of funding.
We will acknowledge these two important milestones by hosting an afternoon of speeches, a panel discussion and introductions to the new energy service providers at the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence in Lusaka on March 17th. The event will be livestreamed on our Facebook page and over Zoom.
